In north-west Russia, on the border with Estonia, live members of the Seto people. The Pechorsky Region in Pskov Oblast is the only place in the Russian Federation that this ethic minority has ever lived. During the Middle Ages this Finno-Uralic people fled the Baltic countries, travelling to Setomaa, or «the land of the Setos», in order to escape oppression. There is now a museum in the town of Sigovo where visitors can learn about the traditions, customs and daily life of the Seto people. The best time of year to visit however, is during the annual «Setomaa Family Gatherings» festival. RTV TV host Ludmila Shiryaeva travelled to Sigovo and found out what married women used to wear, how to weave traditional belts and the secret to making their special Setosky cheese.
