Kolomna, a city with a 900-year history, served as the outpost of the Grand Principality of Moscow in the 14th century with the walls of the Kolomna Kremlin protecting the capital from attacks from the south-east. One of the most legendary battles in Russian history - the Battle of Kulikovo - was held on a field not far from Kolomna.
