Igor Spassky, one of the men behind Russia’s submarine navy, headed the construction and development of approximately 200 submarines. His name is inextricably linked with Russia’s oldest submarine design and production enterprise - the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering, founded in 1901. There Igor Dmitriyevich served as the Chief Designer for 35 years – more than one third of the bureau’s history. Nowadays this gifted engineer who has done so much for the submarine world continues to work in the field of science and participate in the life of the company responsible for developing the new generation of submarines. These however, are not Spassky’s only areas of interest. He has also taken part in many other projects, both land-based and non-military. His role in the development of submarine vessels is just the tip of the gigantic iceberg known as none other than Igor Spassky.
