The Indigenous Peoples of Kamchatka

Kamchatka is an enticing and exotic region. But it’s not only its fire-breathing volcanoes and hot springs that attract thousands of tourists from all over the world. This land has a rich history. There are peoples residing there to this day that arrived long before the first Russian pioneers settled the peninsula. There is enormous variety in the different ways of life of these peoples - they belonged to different linguistic groups and occupy different territories. Some prefer to fish, some to hunt, and others to tend deer. But there is something that unites all the peoples of Kamchatka - an ability to take joy in each and every day, and from generation to generation through the centuries to thank the land on which they live for its generosity.
