Skiing in the Komi Republic

In the Komi Republic the first snow falls in the middle of autumn and covers the ground until summer. The enormous snow banks make it impossible for cars and other modes of transportation to get around, but for centuries, people in the area have known a way not just to get around the snowy obstacles, but practically soar over them – on skis! In the Komi Republic, this is a way of life and, of course, a national sport. For several decades Komi has consistently supplied the Russian National Ski Team with athletes, many of whom have won more than one World Championship and Olympic Games. Learn more about the Komi Republic’s rich skiing traditions in RTG TV’s new programme.
