There are certain places in St. Petersburg that seem timeless. Some buildings in the city centre have housed the same establishments for decades — even centuries. In the 21st century these places were recorded in St. Petersburg’s Red Book of Commemorative Objects. One such building is Nevsky Prospect’s Kotomin House, which is home to an establishment whose history began almost 200 years ago with the opening of the Wolf and Beranger Confectionery. This place promptly became a hotspot among writers, artists and poets. Forty years later it was a French restaurant, and for the past 20 it has been the Literary Café. RTG TV host Maria Mumicheva visited this historic and famous place where she got to prepare one of the dishes on the café’s very diverse menu, which in itself represents part of the city’s history and that of those that lived here in the 19th century and those who live here now.
