Anichkov Palace

The Anichkov Palace in St. Petersburg, built in the mid-18th century, is often called the "gift palace." All of the palace’s owners - be they royalty, nobles or government officials - ended up passing it down to their children, relatives or those they favoured. As can be expected, each new owner tried to redecorate, redo or rebuild the palace’s main building and its territories to reflect their own tastes. This trend continued until St. Petersburg schoolchildren became the owners of the Anichkov estate. The current day Palace of Youth Creativity has been located in the palace building for more than 70 years and is the most famous place for young people to effectively and creatively spend their leisure time in St. Petersburg.
