National Cuisine of the Komi Republic

The Komi Republic, located in the far north-east of Europe, is home to vast expanses of tundra, the majestic and ancient Ural Mountains, dense taiga forests and crystal clear lakes and rivers. Here the climate is severe and there is little good farm land, so people have bred reindeer, hunted, fished and gathered mushrooms and berries for as long as can be remembered. These traditional industries were key in developing Komi’s unique cuisine. Here simple recipes emphasise the high quality of nature’s products. RTG TV host Rumiya Niyazova travelled to the Komi Republic, where she learned how to prepare several local dishes.
